Volunteer at the Library

The Augusta-Richmond County Public Library System welcomes volunteers. We are grateful for their support as we strive to enrich the lives of the community. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old to volunteer at the library.

Volunteer Selection and Appointment:

To become a regular volunteer at one of our libraries, applicants must:

  1. Complete the Volunteer Application Form ( click here ) and send it to outreach@arcpls.org or bring the application to any ARCPLS branch.
    (Submission of an application does not guarantee volunteer appointment.)
  2. Undergo a criminal background check (which includes a sex offender registry check), if planning to serve in a regularly scheduled capacity.
  3. Complete an in-person or telephone interview.
  4. Attend a volunteer orientation.

Below is a list of our current volunteer opportunities:

Bookstore Volunteer

Location: Headquarters Library

Description: Do you like being around books and helping people? Bookstore volunteers greet customers and assist them with any book store related questions. Sort and organize donated books and other materials. Price donated books and other materials. Restock the Book Shop and sale carts. Calculate total amounts due by customers and process payments.

Time Commitment: A minimum of 2 hours weekly

Length of Commitment: 6 months minimum

Technology Assistant

Location: Headquarters Library

Description: Are you a patient, friendly person with basic computer skills? Technology Assistants help library patrons with basic computer and technology questions.

Time Commitment: A minimum of 2 hours a month. Schedule is flexible.

Length of Commitment: 6 months minimum

Special Events Volunteer

Location: Varies

Description: Don’t have time to commit to a regular volunteer opportunity? Being a special events volunteer may be just right for you. Special events volunteers may assist with set up and break down and clean up. May assist with program activities such as greeting people, helping with crafts, or serving food. Some Library special events are the Summer Reading Kickoff, Evenings in Appleby Garden Concert Series, and Star Wars Reads.

Time Commitment: 2+ hours per event. Special events typically occur on nights and weekends.
