The Collection:The library has an extensive collection of genealogy resources including microfilm, on-line databases, print sources, internet access and CD-ROMs. The collection includes materials from all of Georgia with the emphasis on the Augusta-Aiken region.

 

 

Microfilm: The library has microfilm of Federal Census (1820-1930), Augusta City Directory (1841-Current), Freedman’s Bank Records and the Savannah Passenger Lists, Augusta Chronicle and Augusta Herald.

 

 

On-Line Databases:Access to numerous databases is free via the Internet computers located at the library.

 

 

Ancestry Library Edition: provides access to databases such as: Social Security Death Index, U.S. Census Indexes and more. (Part of the Database Offerings in GALILEO, Georgia’s Virtual Library) Access to Ancestry Library Edition is available from within the library through Galileo.

 

 

HeritageQuest: Provides access to databases such as: U.S. Census, Freedman’s Bank Records, Revolutionary War Records, and 28,000 family books. HeritageQuest is available through Galileo for use outside the library.

 

 

Augusta Chronicle: Provides online access to the years 1792 to the present. This database is available to patrons for use outside the library.

 

 

Local Publications: Information about the publication of the, Catalog of the Augusta (Georgia) City Directories 1841-1939 and the Registers of Signatures of Depositors in the Augusta, Georgia, Branch of the Freedman’s Saving and Trust Company Vol. I November 1870-June 1872, and the Personal Name Index to the Augusta Chronicle (Augusta, Georgia).

 

 

Research: The library is staffed to provide limited research for users unable to visit our facility. To obtain research assistance please send a detailed list of the items you require. The following information should be included: Name of the individual, source of the information, citation date, page number and column number. Please enclose a check for service, checks made payable to the Augusta-Richmond Public Library.

 

 

Charges for specific types of copies are as follows:

 

 

Obituaries: $5.00 for the first three obituaries in a single request. $3.00 for each additional notice included in the same request. Copying, postage and handling included.

 

 

City Directory Requests: $5.00 per request for checking one name in one to five years of the City Directories. Additional years will be charged at $2.00 per year. Photocopies, postage and handling included.

 

 

All other requests will be filled at $5.00 per question, plus 25 cents a page.
